Calling all our beloved Kemptville senior citizens! Winter is just around the corner and, as much as we don’t want to think about it, we want you to feel prepared, confident, and ready to brave the weather! This November 6th we are hosting a Winter Driving and Roundabouts Information Presentation and Q&A session for our seniors’ community.

The talk will be hosted at the Grenville Mutual Insurance Community Room from 10:00–11:45am and will include light beverages, snacks, and valuable information.

Not only will the presentation include information to get you ready for winter, but we will also talk about all these new roundabouts in Kemptville—how they work, what the point of them is, and how to safely navigate them. We often have seniors come into our center asking why they have been added and why you can’t turn left. These are important questions and concerns, and we want to provide as much help for seniors as possible.

Why Winter Driving Preparation Matters

Winter driving is something we all have to navigate, and preparing early gives seniors the confidence to stay safe and independent! Our goal is to keep seniors at home and independent as long as possible—that’s why early preparation is key.

We’ve all been in situations when we are on the road and the conditions aren’t what we expected. Icy roads, reduced visibility, and unpredictable weather can make winter driving stressful. Let’s work together to ensure we are all ready to take on whatever winter throws at us!

Understanding Kemptville’s New Roundabouts

Aside from winter driving, there has recently been lots of new construction in Kemptville. With the addition of many new roundabouts, we understand the difficulties not only construction, but new roadworks can cause. Roundabouts are becoming increasingly popular because they improve traffic flow. Unlike stoplights that cause traffic to abruptly stop, roundabouts keep traffic moving steadily, which reduces congestion and delays.

Additionally, roundabouts can reduce serious collisions. Due to their circular nature, roundabouts ensure vehicles travel at slower speeds and reduce head-on collisions.

Come find out more about roundabouts and how to drive safely through them at our presentation hosted by the Ministry of Transportation.

Rediscover Strength and Serenity

Yoga for Seniors at SCS

At Seniors’ Community Services, we believe that aging doesn’t mean slowing down—it means moving smarter, caring for your body, and finding balance in new and empowering ways.

That’s why our Beginner Hatha Yoga for Seniors and Chair Yoga classes are designed specifically with you in mind. Whether you're looking to improve your flexibility, reduce pain, build strength, or simply enjoy a peaceful moment in your week, our yoga program offers a gentle, supportive environment where every movement is purposeful and accessible.

Discover the Power of Gentle Movement

Yoga is more than stretching—it’s a practice of mindfulness, breath, and movement that helps us stay grounded and vibrant at any age. Studies have shown that yoga can slow down the aging process, enhance mental clarity, and support better sleep, digestion, and mood.

Our classes are tailored to meet the unique needs of older adults. You don’t need to be flexible or have any prior experience—just come as you are. You’ll be guided through slow, steady movements that:

  • Improve flexibility and range of motion
  • Enhance balance and coordination
  • Support healthy joints and bones
  • Promote relaxation and reduce stress
  • Foster a deeper connection between mind and body

Two Class Styles to Choose From

We know that everyone moves differently. That’s why we offer two gentle yoga formats, so you can choose what feels best for your body:

 Seniors Mat Yoga

A mat-based class designed for seniors who are comfortable getting up and down from the floor.
This class features slow flows, seated poses, and supported stretches to build strength and mobility.
Tuesdays & Thursdays | 9:30–10:30 AM

 Chair Yoga

Ideal for those who prefer or require seated movement.
This class is performed using a chair for support, making it an excellent choice for anyone with limited mobility, arthritis, or balance concerns.
Tuesdays & Thursdays | 10:30–11:30 AM

All classes are held in the lower level at 215 Sanders Street in Kemptville.

Why Seniors Love Our Yoga Program

" My walker stays mostly in the trunk now, and I do not rely on my cane. Yoga and exercise have helped me feel more flexible and stronger, and it is a great way to socialize with a wonderful group of people under the watchful eye of our instructor.” —  Stella, SCS Participant

Here are just a few of the wellness benefits participants have shared:

  • Reduced joint pain and stiffness
  • Increased confidence in movement
  • Improved posture and breathing
  • A greater sense of calm and focus

And the best part? Every time you attend a class, you're also giving back—all proceeds support Seniors’ Community Services and help fund local programs that benefit older adults.

Champions Week 2025 Recap

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Community

Meals on Wheels has always been more than just a program at Seniors' Community Services (SCS); it’s a lifeline that helps seniors and adults with physical disabilities stay independent, healthy, and nourished. But beyond the meals, it’s about connection, support, and the incredible strength of our community. That’s why we dedicated last week to Champions Week, a celebration of the amazing volunteers, staff, clients, and community partners who make Meals on Wheels possible.

What is Champions Week?

Champions Week was an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the importance of Meals on Wheels and the key role community partners play in delivering this vital service. We welcomed local organizations, including Community Living Kemptville, Mayor Nancy, and Roxanne from Kemptville Youth Centre, to participate in the program and show their support for Meals on Wheels. It was a week filled with meaningful moments, warm interactions, and a chance to see firsthand how much this program means to our clients and the community.

Celebrating Community Champions

Throughout the week, our community champions joined us in different ways.
On Tuesday, Community Living Kemptville joined us on the road, delivering meals to our clients and spreading positivity. Their energy and enthusiasm made a lasting impact, and we’re so grateful for their participation.
On Friday, we had the honor of having Mayor Nancy and Roxanne from Kemptville Youth Centre join us. Mayor Nancy helped prep meals in the kitchen, while Roxanne took to the streets to personally deliver meals to clients. Their involvement brought extra warmth and connection to the week, and we couldn’t have asked for better partners to help celebrate this service.

Meals on Wheels: More Than a Lifeline

While Meals on Wheels is crucial for seniors and adults with physical disabilities who may have difficulty cooking or accessing nutritious food, it’s also a fantastic option for other members of our community. Many busy retirees who don’t enjoy cooking or simply don’t have the time appreciate the convenience and nutritional value of a homemade meal delivered right to their door. Meals on Wheels isn’t just about serving those in need; it’s about offering healthy, homemade meals to anyone who could benefit from the service—helping people stay independent for longer, while also providing peace of mind to families.

The Heart of the Community

We couldn’t do this work without the incredible support of our clients, volunteers, staff, and community partners. Together, we’ve created something special that strengthens the fabric of Kemptville and North Grenville. Your participation in Champions Week reminded us all of the power of community—and how, when we come together, we make this community stronger and more united.

A Heartfelt Thank You

To everyone who participated in Champions Week, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. To our clients, volunteers, staff, and community partners: your support makes Meals on Wheels not just a service, but a symbol of the care and connection that defines our community.

Together, we are stronger. Together, we thrive.
Thank you again for your ongoing commitment to Meals on Wheels, and stay tuned for more exciting ways to get involved and make a difference in the future!
At Seniors' Community Services (SCS), we believe in the power of connection. Social isolation is a challenge many seniors face, and our goal is to create welcoming spaces where people can come together, share experiences, and enjoy a sense of belonging. That’s why we host Diners' Club every Wednesday at 12:00 PM—a warm, inviting gathering where delicious food and great company go hand in hand.

A Meal That Brings Community Together

Diners' Club is more than just a lunch. It’s a place where seniors can gather to enjoy a hot meal, meet new people, and strengthen friendships. Our volunteers prepare and serve each meal with care, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for all who attend. For just $10 per meal, attendees receive not only nourishing food but also the priceless gift of companionship.

Diners' Club isn’t just about the food; it’s about building relationships, creating a support system, and fostering a sense of community. Our dedicated volunteers are there to serve with a smile, ensuring that everyone feels welcome and valued.

Celebrating Community Through Themed Lunches

One of the special things about Diners' Club is our themed lunches! Throughout the year, we celebrate holidays and special occasions with festive meals, cultural themes, and even guest speakers. Each week brings a new experience, making every visit exciting and engaging. It’s all part of our mission to help seniors stay connected and enjoy meaningful moments together.

Meet New Friends, Stay Connected

Loneliness can have a significant impact on well-being, and we want to make sure that no one feels alone. Diners' Club provides a space where seniors can share a meal, exchange stories, and form lasting friendships. Whether you’re new to the community or a long-time resident, you’ll always be greeted with kindness and a warm smile.
